"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Last night in class, we had the pleasure of listening to Dr. Michael Grant, professor of technology at the University of Memphis. Dr. Grant gave us many tips and resources to use as we integrate teaching with mobile devices in the classroom. Dr. Grant shared a few enlightening videos that were filled with amazing statistics of where technology has come from to where it is heading. Here is a video he shared with us that really made an impact on me. I would love to hear your thoughts on this video or about anything else related to mobile learning.

Hello again. I finally created another version of  comic in ToonDoo which incorporates the Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines. I decided to take a different approach and integrate celebrities quoting the guidelines that pertain to them. For example, illustrations and photographs may not be used more than 5 times by a single artist or 15 times in a collection from a photographer. Also, to be sure you are safe, always get permission. Check out my ToonDoo and tell me what you think. Thanks!

I seem to spend all my time these days with my newest and best friend, my laptop.  Between last night and today I have spent hours and hours viewing copyright rules and guidelines and understanding what an AUP is (Acceptable Use Policy).
In regards to copyright rules, a person cannot take any image off the web and put it into a creation to call their own. For a work to be copyrighted, a person must create an original work in a tangible form. It seems to me that everything would be copyrighted. What do we do if we want to use something we see and like that belongs to another person? Just ask permission to use it.
Acceptable Use Policies are needed in every school that uses a computer. This policy protects the school as well as the individual. Acceptable Use Policy's must have 6 elements. They must explain why it is needed, define key words used in the policy, have a policy statement, have a section devoted to acceptable uses, and a section that explains how students can report violations. What does your school's AUP look like?
Here are some websites that will give you more information.
Please let me know your thoughts!

Glogster is a website that enables you to mix graphics, photos, videos, music and text into a glog which is like a poster. I was included in a group to give a presentation on this website. We demonstrated how to use the tool and gave student examples for other classmates to view. With Glogster, you can glog yourself everyday. Glog your friends. Glog your class or glog a project. Glogster enables you to send others links to your glogs and even share them on facebook.
Other tech tools that work great in the classroom are http://voki.com, http://prezi.com, http://audioboo.com, http://inspiration.com and http://storyjumper.com.

Here is a link to my Glog. There is also a tab called My Glog and it will take you directly into my personal creation. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks!

Greetings! I have just created and integrated a VoiceThread  into a lesson plan on a Social Studies unit. My daughters, Abby and Anna helped me with this project. In October, we took a field trip to St. Louis to see the Gateway Arch and the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial museum. We took some great pictures. Anna helped me narrate the slides for this project. This web 2.0 tool is great to use for creating projects you want other people to view and comment on. It's quite simple and involves only a few steps. First, create an account, then upload images or video, next comment on your images or video, there are five different ways to comment. You can comment by using your voice with a microphone or telephone, text, audiofile, or video with webcam. Finally, share your VoiceThread with other students, friends or colleagues. They will be able to leave comments too.
Check out my VoiceThread and let me know what you think! I have also created a Photos Journal tab where you may view my field trip photos. Each picture has a descriptive caption that will explain how the picture relates to the lesson. To take a quiz after viewing my VoiceThread, please click here. If you are interested in creating a VoiceThread of your own, check out this website. Thanks!

This study examines the factors that influence the use of computers in the teacher’s classroom and the ways they make use of them. Surveys were given to recent graduates from an elementary teacher preparation program. The findings indicated that teachers believed the use of computers allowed students to construct ideas for themselves, thus aligning with the constructivism theory. K – 3 students primarily used computers for drill and practice activities. Older students spent more time on word processing and all elementary grades used the WWW. The reports showed students used the computers in three ways: general software applications, complex/multimedia and communication tasks, and practice/simulations. Some software consisted of Kid Pix for graphics and word processing, Graph Club for spreadsheets or Reader Writer for authoring. Games for skills were given the highest percentage. The elementary teachers cited their greatest barriers to computers were too much curriculum to cover, lack of time in daily schedule and high stakes testing. However it was found that the teachers in this study were able to overcome the perceived barriers. The factors that influenced the computer use in the classroom were leadership, access and availability, incentives, personnel support, external constraints and philosophy. Stipends were the greatest factor in acquiring use of computers. These six support factors were also used to predict how the students used the computers. I would appreciate any thoughts or feedback you may have on this article. Did you find this article helpful? Do you agree or disagree? If you are teaching, how do you integrate the use of technology in your classroom? Thanks so much!

Greetings! This month I am taking a course in Computer Applications in the Classroom. This is already an exciting class for me because I am learning so many things I have never done before. For example, creating my own webpage! Hooray! Learning new things in this technological world that continues to advance in leaps and bounds is so much fun! Yes, it can be a challenge but one that can be overcome. Never fear the unknown and continue to seek improvement in areas of weakness. Come journey with me as I write about my experiences in graduate school. It has been 14 years since I have been in school and I am amazed at the love, passion and desire I have to educate myself as much as possible.  Yes, school is a challenge as I work and raise two daughters but with God, all things are possible. :-)

Ephesians 3:20 "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be the glory toin the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
